Iran has received assurances that, following the conclusion of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, no armed forces from third countries will be deployed in the South Caucasus, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said during a briefing.
“We do not consider the presence of foreign armed forces in the South Caucasus to be beneficial. We have already expressed our concern in this regard. And we have been assured that the armed forces of third countries will not be deployed in the South Caucasus. One of the key provisions of the peace agreement is a clause prohibiting the deployment of any third-country armed forces along the shared borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are closely following the development of the situation in the region and maintain close contacts with Yerevan and Baku,” he emphasized.
