O’Brien’s visit to Azerbaijan contradicts his statements, Tereza Yerimyan, Government Affairs Director of the ANCA, said in an interview with Alpha News.

“O’Brien announced that all high-level meetings with Azerbaijan have been canceled, but his visit to Azerbaijan contradicts those statements. Although his visit could and did contribute to the release of prisoners. Nonetheless, we see that putting pressure on Azerbaijan is working, and it should be continued to achieve results in the future. All the activities of the Armenian National Committee are a way, a way to punish Azerbaijan,” Yerimyan said.

According to Yerimyan, sanctions will be applied even to Aliyev in case of non-compliance with US demands.

“The resolution to deprive Azerbaijan of military aid should be approved in the US House of Representatives. If it is not approved, the Biden administration may continue to help Azerbaijan by providing military equipment. In any case, aid will not be provided to Azerbaijan in 2023 with this project, but in 2024-2025, they may change their minds and help.

If Azerbaijan follows the words of the USA and does not commit any violations, these sanctions will be lifted in the future. And if not, new sanctions will be applied, and they will affect not only the country but also the generals and leaders who participated in the Artsakh genocide. The sanctions will affect even Aliyev,” Yerimyan concluded.
