Termination of Karapetyan’s ENA license is political persecution – Sergey Stankevich

Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Sergey Stankevich commented on reports that Armenian authorities intend to revoke the license of the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA). According to the political scientist, this appears to be politically motivated persecution.
“If we’re talking about the legal path, granting or revoking a license is indeed the responsibility of the state. However, when making this decision, there must be economic and technical grounds, not political ones. So far, this looks like politically motivated persecution, and this persecution is aimed not only at a specific individual—Karapetyan—but also at the country that ensures the operation of these very same power grids, supplying the necessary resources to this corporation. So this is a double challenge, a double attack,” Stankevich said.
According to the expert, the hope that Trump will reach out and help is an illusion.
“In my view, this isn’t the smartest move. The current Armenian leadership, in my opinion, is making yet another historical mistake—something that has happened in Armenia’s history, always with negative consequences. It is impossible to remain alone, as a Christian country in the Caucasus. And right now, Armenia is doing everything it can to remain alone. The blind hope that Trump will reach out and help from America is an illusion. Nothing of the sort will happen. To understand this, you don’t need a deep philosophical or historical understanding—it’s enough to simply look at contemporary political practice. So, I hope Armenia will be able to stop this erroneous, historically flawed path before it is too late,” Stankevich concluded.
