Armenians of Strasbourg protest in front of European Council

Today, on September 21, the members of the Hayordi youth association initiated a peaceful assembly of the Armenian community in Strasbourg. Young leaders of Hayordi organized a protest in front of the Council of Europe. The police had not been notified in advance about the assembly, so there was no possibility to carry it out right in front of the main building.

The members of the organization and organizers of the action Hamlet Hovsepian and Sarkis Makhtesian made speeches.

The local Armenians demanded from CoE to pressure on Azerbaijan, a member of the Council of Europe, to fulfill its obligations and conventions, which have been ratified by the country. The participants of peaceful assembly called on the representatives of the CoE to address their speeches directly to the aggressor and to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan, instead of entering into new deals with the dictator Aliyev, meaning the EU gas deal.

The participants chanted “fascist Aliyev, fascist Erdogan, fascist Putin”.

A number of local passers-by and drivers, as a sign of encouragement of the Armenian youth association demonstration, signaled and expressed their support towards people in Artsakh.

The young Armenians informed the locals that a big protest action is being prepared in Brussels on October 1, while inviting Armenians from other cities and representatives of the Armenian community of Strasbourg to join them and participate in that protest.
