The Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization has adopted a statement in connection with the deteriorating situation in the Middle East and around the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The document expresses deep concern over the sharp escalation of the situation in the region, caused by provocative actions by extra-regional forces aimed at destabilizing the situation around Iran. The parliamentarians noted that such actions pose a serious threat to international peace and security. The statement emphasizes the inacceptability of resorting to force and threatening with force against sovereign states.

The CSTO PA Council called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and resume dialogue for the peaceful resolution of existing disagreements. The document expresses support for the government and people of Iran.

“We consider the resort of force unacceptable and call for the resolution of existing contradictions exclusively through peaceful means, on the basis of dialogue, mutual respect and consideration of the interests of all parties, in accordance with the universally recognized principles and norms of international law and the UN Charter,” the statement reads.
