Vladimir Kireyev, head of the analytical department of the international Eurasian Movement, commented to Alpha News on the visit of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow.

“The Middle East conflict is expanding by the day, the level of military danger is rising, and the number of parties involved is growing. Further escalation of the situation is entirely to be expected, with hostilities potentially spreading to new countries. From the perspective of Armenia’s leadership, the task at hand is ensuring its own security, especially given that we can see the European Union and the United States are unable to control the situation in the region. It is therefore the task of Armenia’s leadership to align its position with all key participants in the regional security system. All the more so since, firstly, Russia currently enjoys quite productive relations with both the United States and Iran,” Kireyev said.

In the expert’s view, the visit is also connected to Turkey’s assertiveness, as Ankara together with Baku is seeking to partition Armenian territory.

“The second aim of Pashinyan’s visit to Moscow relates to Turkey’s activities, which, according to him, intends jointly with Azerbaijan to bring about the partition of Armenian territory in order to create a corridor between Nakhchivan and Azerbaijan’s main territory, as well as to establish a route from Turkey to the trans-Caspian states of Central Asia. All of this requires coordination, and it is therefore necessary, in the changed circumstances, for Nikol Pashinyan to secure support, including from Moscow, and at the very least to understand Russia’s position on the events unfolding in the region,” Kireyev concluded.
