The more concessions Pashinyan makes, the more Aliyev will demand – Dmitry Rodionov
Speaking with Alpha News, Dmitry Rodionov, Director of the Institute of Geopolitical Studies’ Center for International Development, commented on the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s announcement that the issue of the remaining enclaves remains on the agenda.
“As we know, appetite comes with eating. The more Pashinyan compromises and retreats, the more they will want. If your opponents are retreating, why should you stand still instead of advancing when you have the opportunity? That’s why the more Pashinyan surrenders territory and Armenia’s national interests, the more compromises he agrees to, the more Aliyev will demand, and the harsher Azerbaijan’s conditions will be. This is a completely normal situation, and it was entirely predictable,” the political scientist said.
According to the expert, Pashinyan is ready to make any concessions, even to Yerevan itself.
“I have absolutely no doubt that Pashinyan will make all these concessions, and Azerbaijan’s demands will only grow further. And, in fact, only the logic of the situation can eventually halt these demands, because there is always a red line that must never be crossed—otherwise the entire framework of the game collapses. But I think that, if necessary, his American and Turkish partners will point out this line to Aliyev: you can take this, you can take that, but beyond that, no. But I don’t think he himself will stop. Especially since I am absolutely certain that Pashinyan is ready to retreat all the way to Yerevan,” Rodionov said.
