The events taking place in Syria have their impact on Syrian Armenians as well, Kevork Hagopjian, Doctor in International Law, told Alpha News.
“In recent days, Syria and Syrian Armenians have been at the center of our attention for obvious reasons, because both Syria and Syrian Armenians are going through historic days and are in a transitional period, experiencing panic, uncertainty, and mainly anxiety. The Syrian Armenian community, as one of the components of Syria’s multi-confessional and multicultural society, is involved in the ongoing events, so everything that is happening has a direct impact on them as well,” he said.
According to Kevork Hagopjian, the situation in Syria is stabilizing.
“In terms of security, the situation in Syria seems to be moving towards stability, while internal and economic problems are growing. There are no guarantees that all this can be durable and stable,” Kevork Hagopjian noted.
A curfew has been imposed in the country, and people are not allowed to leave their homes in the evenings, he said.
“I think the uncertainty is much higher. A curfew has been declared from 5 p.m. until 5 a.m., and people have to stay in their homes. The economy is in a deplorable state; markets are closed, people are not working, and schools are closed, but today it was announced that Armenian schools will reopen on Monday morning,” Kevork Hagopjian concluded.
