The Torontohye magazine has been published for 20 years. Alpha News spoke with Rupen Janbazian, the magazine’s editor, who said that the magazine’s content has changed over time, but the main focus on the achievements of the Armenian community has remained the same.
“This year, the Torontohye magazine celebrates its 20th anniversary. It is an important event for the Toronto Armenian community. The magazine is a unified platform that highlights the achievements of Armenians living in Toronto and its surrounding areas,” he said.
According to Janbazian, the magazine is published in two languages, Armenian and English.
“Twenty years ago, Torontohye began publishing as a bilingual magazine, featuring news and articles in both Armenian and English. This bilingual format ensured that both those who speak Armenian and those who find it more convenient to read in English could get the information they were interested in. Initially, we focused on community life and events in Toronto. However, over time—and for various reasons—the nature of the magazine changed slightly. We started providing details about news from Armenia and covering the lives of Armenians living in other communities.
Three years ago, it was decided to return to a more ‘Toronto-centric’, community-based format, and now our content is completely unique,” Rupen Janbazian said.
