There is no unanimity in Georgian opposition that could lead to ‘Maidan’, says political scientist

Political scientist and journalist Lali Moroshkina commented on the opposition rally planned for October 28 in Georgia’s Tbilisi against the election results. According to the expert, there is no unanimity in the opposition that could lead to ‘Maidan’ (protests and unrest in Ukraine in 2013-2014).
“The rallies organized by the opposition will not be able to develop into Ukraine’s ‘Maidan’ because they themselves have a mixed attitude toward everything that is happening. That is, the unanimity that could lead to ‘Maidan’ is currently not really there. A certain part of the opposition believes that it still needs to enter parliament, needs to take mandates because, according to the law, 75 mandates are enough for parliament to continue its normal work. But the majority have many more votes than 75; that is, they do not need the opposition at all for the work of parliament. Therefore, people who voted for the opposition say that it should enter parliament and continue working. Today, it does not feel like people want to go out into the streets or smash something. At the same time, we must not forget that law enforcement agencies are ready, they have already made more than one statement that if someone tries to sow discord, they will be punished. No one will be liberal with them anymore.
Therefore, I believe that nothing will happen. The president, who is a resident of another country, wants to spoil everything for Georgia in the last months of her rule, and this will simply result in the indignation of the people. So I believe they should not joke with the Georgian people. And I believe the oppositionists themselves will ultimately decide to enter parliament,” Moroshkina said.
