There is not a single country that would act as a guarantor of this peace agreement — Tigran Kocharyan

Alpha News editor-in-chief Tigran Kocharyan analyzed why Armenia and Azerbaijan are rushing to sign a peace agreement as soon as possible.

“This urgency stems from the fact that both Pashinyan and the West, represented by Europe, made the wrong bet on the US presidential elections. Everyone expected Biden and Harris to win, and the processes related to the Zangezur corridor and the signing of the peace agreement—championed by the Democrats and Europe—would continue. Trump’s election as US president has disrupted all plans.

They see that a process is currently underway in Ukraine that could soon put an end to the war and allow Russia to direct its resources to areas it had previously withdrawn from. The South Caucasus will be the first, which is why they are in such a hurry to sign the agreement,” Tigran Kocharyan noted.

According to him, the opposition should try to stop the ratification of this agreement using various levers.

“From the moment of signing, a legal process must follow. It must be adopted in parliament, ratified, and so on. There is no need to immediately panic and take to the streets tomorrow. The opposition must develop a strategy for resistance—both in the National Assembly and on the streets—while also trying to use other levers and engage external players who oppose this process and are ready to intervene through diplomatic means. There is no need to approach the issue emotionally, it is necessary to rationally draw up a plan of resistance,” Tigran Kocharyan emphasized.

The media expert said that even if the agreement is signed, it will not provide any guarantees and an attack could happen at any moment.

“Let’s assume the agreement was signed. Who will guarantee its implementation? There is not a single country that would do this. This means that each of the parties can violate this agreement at any time, depending on the circumstances.

This agreement is meaningless, it cannot be considered a peace agreement, since the Armenian side is in a humiliated position. When there is a change of power and national forces take over, this agreement will not be implemented. Even if guarantors appear, this does not mean that there will be a ceasefire,” said the editor-in-chief of Alpha News.

Kocharyan is convinced that the Azerbaijani president has already gained everything from Nikol Pashinyan.

“Our people must understand that the peace agreement is worthless, and all issues will be resolved through force—on the ground and by force of the recently changed international law. In fact, Aliyev got everything he wanted from Pashinyan, and Pashinyan is now a spent force for Aliyev. Aliyev will do everything to make sure the future government has no chance to change anything,” Tigran Kocharyan emphasized.
