There will be bargaining around South Caucasus – Alen Ghevondyan

Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Alen Ghevondyan commented on the impact on the global world order after the change of the US president.

“The change of the US president will affect the global world order, and Russia’s role in this global world order is significantly large, while in strategic terms, the main player is China. America’s political and foreign policy concept is strong, and it is based on American national interests. Russia’s role is huge, especially in US-Chinese relations. Russia is a large market that the European Union has lost and which Turkey and China have captured.

As a result of all this, Russia’s influence in certain regions, especially in the South Caucasus, has weakened and, in some ways, strengthened. And focusing on the topic of the ‘Zangezur corridor’ in the Russian-American agenda is inappropriate, since everything is just beginning,” the political scientist emphasized.

According to Ghevondyan, everything is happening not in Russia’s favor, but in the interests of the United States.

“We must state one fact: it will not be easy with Trump. The pathos and propaganda work that is being carried out are a subject of bargaining. If someone thinks that Trump is going to put Ukraine on the negotiating table with Russia, this is not entirely true. All this is being done not for the benefit of Russia, but for the United States. There will be bargaining around the South Caucasus, and geopolitical models will be based on the idea of trade. The problem is who will get what in return,” he noted.

According to Alen Ghevondyan, Nikol Pashinyan sees Turkey as a lifeline for himself and his team.

“However, the situation around Turkey is also ambiguous. Turkey and Israel are traditional states that were in different civilizational conditions but remained allies. Even in the days when Erdogan was cursing Israel, Turkey was selling oil to Israel. The problem is maintaining balance,” the political scientist concluded.
