There will be no fundamental changes after Georgian elections – Dmitry Zhuravlev
Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist Dmitry Zhuravlev commented on the recent elections in Georgia and how they will affect Western policy in post-Soviet countries.
“There will be no fundamental changes after the elections in Georgia. There will be an increase in funding and a tightening of policy, but nothing will change significantly because the West is sure it will catch all the CIS countries with the bait of European integration. The West will intensify propaganda, accelerate the formation of an anti-Russian elite in the CIS countries, as well as strengthen interaction with the businesses of these countries, counting on the fact that rich people will always be pro-Western, which, unfortunately, has been confirmed so far.
The West was sure that people in Georgia would take to the streets, overthrow this government, and become a second Ukraine. But it did not happen because common sense triumphed. The West needs to separate the authorities and business, like, here is business, it is good, it advocates for Western values; and the authorities are bad, they sold themselves to Russians. This is the West’s position,” Zhuravlev said.
