Speaking with Alpha News, Russian political scientist and expert on the South Caucasus Konstantin Tasits commented on the Russian-Azerbaijani relations against the background of recent news, in particular, the termination of Rossotrudnichestvo activity in Baku.

“Officially, Baku said that the organization is not properly registered in Azerbaijan; that is, it does not have state registration and, accordingly, the right to conduct its activities. But in the general context, we see that Baku insists that Russia should recognize responsibility for shooting down the plane and for the subsequent disaster, pay compensation to the state, the airline, the victims, as well as hold culprits accountable. Russia, for its part, says it is ready to take the necessary actions after the investigation is completed, which is still ongoing.

The parties need to reach some kind of consensus, a compromise solution to resolve this conflict situation. It seems to me that Russia will not take any symmetrical actions, as it is counterproductive. Dialogue with the Azerbaijani side will continue, and there will be a search for some consensus solutions to resolve this situation,” Tasits said.
