In Yerevan, tree cutting is often carried out without a proper assessment of the trees’ vitality, activist Eduard Hayrumyan told Alpha News while commenting on the ongoing felling in the capital.
According to him, the city authorities make decisions about tree cutting mainly at the political level, without checking which trees are actually dried out or pose a danger.
“Past experience has shown that in many streets trees have been cut down en masse, regardless of their condition. The exception was Tumanyan Street, where, in my opinion, thanks to the intervention of the district administration, it was possible to preserve some elms,” he said.
