Speaking with Alpha News, Americanist Rafael Ordukhanyan commented on the US position on the South Caucasus, the implications of the “Trump Route” project for Armenia, and Russia-Azerbaijan relations.
According to the expert, Azerbaijan and Armenia have always been and will always be bargaining chips in the hands of geopolitical players.
“I still don’t fully understand the US stance on the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. I monitor the American press almost hourly. This topic rarely comes up. Who cares? It was an excuse to pressure Russia, to gain a foothold in the region, to taunt the Iranian government before the bombing—which is exactly what happened. Azerbaijan and Armenia have always been and will always be bargaining chips in the hands of geopolitical players. Moreover, the status of these countries, especially Armenia, is now so low that they are being exploited by regional powers—Turkey, Iran, and others. As the situation in the Middle East develops, as the relationship between Trump and Putin changes, this issue could resurface,” Ordukhanyan said.
According to the political scientist, the “Trump Route” is the final nail in the coffin of Armenian statehood.
“Pashinyan doesn’t understand the scale of the threat. Armenian public opinion also doesn’t fully grasp what’s happening. I said two years ago: whoever chooses shame over war will receive both shame and war. And that’s what happened. Pashinyan changed the Constitution, the national emblem, and reduced Armenia’s prestige to zero. Pashinyan is a traitor to the Armenian people, and that’s the opinion of Russia’s political establishment,” Ordukhanyan said.
