Earlier, the Armenian National Security Service reported about an attempt to cross the Armenian-Turkish border in the village of Ranchpar in the Ararat region. Alpha News spoke with political scientist Ara Poghosyan about this topic.
“There is no clear information about whether the border was crossed or not. If the border was crossed, then the question is by whom and for what purposes. At this point, this should have become the number one problem of the National Security Service of Armenia. Unfortunately, the message is too ambiguous and does not contain enough information for a clear analysis. It is known that in Armenia, in particular, on the Armenian-Turkish border, there have been attempts to cross the border in different years. Moreover, such attempts were often associated with repressions against ethnic minorities in Turkey; in particular, the Armenian-Turkish border was crossed mainly by Kurds. In this case, we are talking about a targeted crossing,” the political scientist said.
He is sure that Turkey and Azerbaijan are convincing Armenian people that if there is a change of power, there will be war.
“At the moment, Azerbaijan is actively talking about the ‘Zangezur corridor,’ and the Turkish side continues to build a road to the border with Nakhichevan. If the construction of the road section continues, then at least they have a scenario. Both Azerbaijan and Turkey consider the opening of the ‘Zangezur corridor’ to be strategically important for themselves. Turkey’s role in the region has increased due to what happened in Syria.
This means that the Turkish-Azerbaijani scenario will remain relevant, and Turkey will try to put pressure on Armenia through Azerbaijan and achieve the opening of this corridor. Also, Turkey and Azerbaijan are trying to convince the Armenian public with various tricks that in the event of a change of power there will be a war,” the political scientist concluded.
