Peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan will open new opportunities in the region, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in a press briefing on Friday.

“We want Armenia and Azerbaijan to sign a permanent peace agreement. We are moving shoulder to shoulder with Azerbaijan in this process. Turkey supports Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s decisive steps aimed at achieving peace in the region. We consider Prime Minister Pashinyan’s positive messages in this direction important. We note that he welcomes peace and promotes positive progress in this process. We hope that Armenia will act with a long-term strategic perspective,” the foreign minister said.

Fidan added that Turkey continues to support the bilateral talks between the two sides without mediators. “The conclusion of peace between the two countries will open new opportunities in the region,” he added.
