Two former Bundestag members will face the Munich Higher Regional Court (OLG) on bribery charges tied to the “Azerbaijan affair,” Münchner Merkur reports.
The court has accepted the charges brought by the Munich Public Prosecutor’s Office, with proceedings set for January 16.
Axel Fischer, a former member of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), is suspected of bribery, and Eduard Lintner, an ex-parliamentarian for the Christian Social Union (CSU), is suspected of bribing elected officials. The aim of the payments was to influence decisions in Azerbaijan’s favor in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). Both have denied the allegations.
