UN Under-Secretary-General Movses Abelian visits Armenian Church in Tashkent

On July 31, UN Under-Secretary-General Movses Abelian visited St. Philip’s Church (Surb Filippos) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The guest was welcomed by pastor Hovhannes Grigoryan. Rev. Fr. Hovhannes spoke about the history of the construction and activities of the Armenian church and its role in the life of the Armenian community of Uzbekistan. He also touched upon the strong relations and friendship between the Armenian and Uzbek peoples and the close cooperation between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the state bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Rev. Fr. Hovhannes Grigoryan conveyed greetings and good wishes on behalf of the Head of the Diocese, Archbishop Yezras Nersisyan.

Movses Abelian, in turn, thanked for the warm welcome and commended the efforts of the Armenian Church of Tashkent in presenting the Armenian spiritual, cultural, and historical heritage, preserving the native language, traditions, and customs among Armenians living far from their homeland, and familiarizing the younger generation with the spiritual values of the Armenian people.
