On October 20, Ruben Mkhitaryan—a lawyer and member of the Our Way movement who was unlawfully arrested in Gyumri—was charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia: Part 1 of Article 327 (participation in mass riots) and Point 1 of Part 2 of Article 486 (obstruction of justice or case review by a group of persons acting in collusion), reports the Our Way movement.

“An examination of the content of these Criminal Code articles indicates that the charges against Ruben are unlawful, particularly the one directly related to the performance of his professional duties as a lawyer.

At present, Ruben has been transferred from the detention facility to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for questioning. Following this, the investigative body is likely to petition the court to impose a preventive measure against Ruben,” the statement reads.
