US prepares operation for Armenia’s pivot to West – Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service

The US State Department has intensified its efforts to accelerate Armenia’s pivot to the West and is persistently pushing the country toward “national suicide”, the press office of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service said, RIA Novosti reports.
“Washington considers it important to strengthen the ‘guiding influence’ on the Armenian political elite to encourage Yerevan to accelerate the final shift to the pro-Western format of development despite the inevitable difficulties,” the release reads.
The intelligence service notes that Americans are planning to solve this task based on the methods already applied in Ukraine and Moldova. Organizations associated with the State Department were instructed to expand training programs for employees of key government agencies in Armenia and to ensure the active participation of foreign advisers who will adjust the work of the Armenian government in the interests of the West.
The US considers the development of a stable anti-Russian trend in Armenia to be the main task. For this purpose, Americans intend to organize a long-term information and propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting Yerevan’s cooperation with Moscow, the EAEU, and the CSTO and disseminating materials about the “oppression” of Armenian citizens in Russia.
According to the intelligence service, Washington believes that to achieve the “lofty goal” of integrating the Armenian people into the so-called civilized community led by the United States, Armenia should abandon its traditions, national values, and stable trade and economic relations with its closest partners in the EAEU.
“Thus, Washington is persistently pushing Armenia toward national ‘suicide’,” the agency concluded.
