Washington has started political “promotion” of pro-Western parties in Armenia to help them pass into parliament in the 2026 elections. The parties are tasked with countering the authorities if they try to follow Georgia’s example, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press office of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service.

“The political ‘promotion’ of pro-Western parties has already begun to ensure their passage to parliament in the 2026 elections. These ‘uncompromising adherents of democracy’ are tasked with countering the Armenian executive power if the latter, following the example of the government of neighboring Georgia, tries to give priority to the objective national interests, traditions, and values of the Armenian people,” the report says.

Among these parties are Aram Sargsyan’s Republic Party, Arman Babajanyan’s For the Republic Party, Tigran Khzmalyan’s European Party of Armenia, and Levon Shirinyan’s Christian Democratic Party.
