The US State Department commented on reports claiming that President Donald Trump’s administration presented Armenia and Azerbaijan with a proposal to unblock communications in the South Caucasus.

In response to Armenpress’ inquiry, the US State Department’s press office said it has no information regarding these media reports. The United States supports efforts to promote peace and stability in the South Caucasus, a State Department spokesperson said.

Earlier, Carnegie Endowment analyst Olesya Vardanyan, citing two foreign diplomats, said that the administration of US President Donald Trump presented Yerevan and Baku with a proposal to build a road connecting Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan through Armenian territory. According to these sources, the American proposal resembles a plan previously circulated by the European Union that was based on arrangements agreed between Russia and Georgia following the 2008 war.
