Vitaly Tretyakov: We consider Pashinyan’s policy wrong and dangerous, but if the people are with him, what should Russia do?
Armenia is in a deep crisis, Vitaly Tretyakov, Dean of the Higher School of Television at the Moscow State University, told Alpha News.
“Judging by the statements of officials, everything in the country is going quite well, wonderfully even. Allied relations with Russia did not work out, but there is a great, powerful, and free democratic West. It has the USA, EU, and NATO. There are constant meetings with them, prospects for joining all the unions, and Armenia will flourish. I highly doubt that this will happen, even accession, although, for sure, NATO would dream of having its own territory in the South Caucasus, completely subordinate to them. However, the rosy prospects described by the Armenian leadership greatly diverge from the impressions of what is happening there,” he said.
According to the politician, there are now more questions than answers, and ambiguity has never been a sign of rosy prospects.
“In my opinion, we all agree to some extent on one thing: now we can only observe. It is impossible to intervene, but if you do, you need to understand on whose side you are intervening. We do not hear any protests against Pashinyan’s policies. The people of Armenia agree with the line that Pashinyan is pursuing, but Russia does not officially support this line and considers it erroneous and dangerous. But if the people are with him, then what should Russia do?” he added.
