The Washington agreement must be presented clearly to the Armenian people, said the Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Aram I.

“The Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement, recently signed in the US capital, with the mediation and presence of the US President, was undoubtedly a unique phenomenon. We will leave it to political analysts to assess its short-term and long-term consequences—positive or negative—for Armenia.

However, I would like to note that Armenia must consider that any peace agreement full of unilateral concessions, conditional principles, and especially equivocal points can become a serious danger for the country. Therefore, this agreement must be presented to the public in a substantive manner. The people must have a voice in relation to the agreement. I would like to remind everyone that today Armenia is at risk of becoming a stage for a clash of geopolitical forces,” Aram I said.

Aram I also addressed the issue of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan and condemned Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian policies in Artsakh, emphasizing that Artsakh is not a matter of the past and reaffirming the inviolable right of the Artsakh people to return to their homeland. He also called attention to the importance of upholding international law regarding the protection of churches.
