Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist and military expert Pyotr Kolchin commented on the purpose of US Vice President JD Vance’s upcoming visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“Washington has already set its diplomatic priorities in the Transcaucasia: it is focusing on cooperation with Azerbaijan, which is confirmed, among other things, by announcements about defense equipment supplies. For the US, this region is becoming part of its Middle East policy, with long-term projects aimed at pressuring Iran, supporting Israel, and periodically destabilizing the area to serve its own interests. There is no point in talking about any significant benefits from such diplomacy for other countries,” Kolchin said.

According to the expert, under these realities, Vance’s visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan could be connected to preparations for further strikes against Iran.

“Yerevan could effectively become a silent accomplice to this aggression if the Pashinyan administration’s diplomatic course continues in this direction. It is clear that the US wants to exploit the Transcaucasia for its own purposes, and Vance’s visit only confirms this,” Kolchin concluded.
