Program director of the Valdai International Discussion Club, Professor Oleg Barabanov commented to Alpha News on Armenian-Russian relations and the meeting of the foreign ministers in the 3+3 format.

According to the expert, there is hope that relations between Armenia and Russia will normalize.

“Indeed, recently there have been statements from both the Russian and Armenian sides that show mutual misunderstanding. For Armenia, obviously, the main problem was that Russia and the CSTO did not actively support Armenia as an ally.

And all this led to these statements, but, in general, we can hope for the normalization of the situation since both the Russian and Armenian authorities stated that Armenia remains an ally of the CSTO and Russia remains Armenia’s ally. I hope that this situation will be resolved,” Barabanov said.

Referring to the 3+3 format, the expert noted that in the current situation, the development of dialogue is a practical and necessary step.

“Now, speaking about the 3+3 meeting, we can say that in the current situation, the development of dialogue obviously seems practical and necessary. It concerns both the humanitarian situation in the region and the prospects for the resolution of the conflict and the possible signing of peace agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan. And all mediators, including Russia, are committed to playing their role,” Barabanov said.
