‘We must never forget our compatriots who were victims of Armenian Genocide’: Artsakh National Assembly

The National Assembly of the Republic of Artsakh has made a statement on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.
“The Armenian Genocide committed by Ottoman Turkey in 1915 is one of the most barbaric crimes in human history, the purpose of which was the complete annihilation of the Armenian people. Tragically, this crime remains unpunished, setting a dangerous precedent for further acts of genocide.
The war crimes, debilitating blockade, forced displacement and atrocities committed in Artsakh in 2020-2023 are a continuation of the same genocidal plans of the Azerbaijani authorities in the 21st century. The actions of Baku—displacing Armenians from Artsakh, committing ethnic cleansing, and erasing the historical presence of the Armenian people—meet the international legal definition of genocide.
The international community is obliged to provide an adequate legal and political assessment of these actions, confirming their alignment with the comprehensive definition of genocide. Silent acceptance of genocide is criminal indifference, and genocide with impunity is an invitation to a new genocide.
Unfortunately, in this reality, the position of the Armenian authorities is also incomprehensible and inexplicable. Condemning genocide and holding its perpetrators accountable are essential steps in preventing future genocides, though these measures must be complemented by a robust system of state security and a forward-thinking domestic and foreign policy.
The 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is also an opportunity to express the collective will of Armenians worldwide for a safe and secure future and in memory of our martyred ancestors. We remember, respect and must never forget our compatriots who were victims of the Genocide, enduring violence, pain and untold suffering. They live in our memory and give us strength to fight for truth, justice and human dignity. Eternal glory and respect to all the martyrs of faith and homeland,” the statement reads.
