‘We will leave very soon’: Trump announces end of war regardless of whether a deal with Iran is reached

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States may halt its military strikes on Iran within two to three weeks, and that Tehran does not need to reach a deal as a precondition for ending the conflict, the BBC’s Russian Service reports.
Just two days ago, Trump claimed that progress had been made in negotiations with Iran and threatened a crushing strike should they fail.
Trump’s latest statements only underscore how contradictory and at times ambiguous Washington’s messaging can be about how a war now in its fifth week might end, Reuters comments.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that President Trump would deliver a national address on Iran on Wednesday at 9 p.m. Washington time.
“We will leave very soon,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday, adding that it could happen “within two weeks, maybe two weeks, maybe three.”
Asked whether successful diplomacy was a prerequisite for the United States to conclude Operation Epic Fury, Trump replied in the negative. “Iran doesn’t need to make a deal ” he said. “No, they don’t need to make a deal with me.”
Trump said the United States had achieved the objectives set before the airstrikes on Iran began in late February limiting Iran’s ability to acquire nuclear weapons and that the US was now “finishing the job.” He also said Iranian officials were “begging for a deal.”
