West has never given firm guarantees of Armenia’s security, expert says
Speaking with Alpha News, Alexander Krylov, political scientist and the chief researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Science, noted that Western officials, including the ambassadors of the US, Germany, and Poland, have always honestly said that they are not able to provide guarantees for the security of Armenia.
“The first time I came to Armenia was 25 years ago, when talks were being held around the Minsk Group. The topic was discussed in different formats, and Western representatives, including the ambassadors of the United States, France, Germany, and Poland, always honestly said that they were not able to provide guarantees for the security of Armenia the same way as Russia does. This was honestly stated at the level of ambassadors and many other levels. Now, apparently, the course has changed, although I do not think they will be able to give a real guarantee of the security of Armenia.
Today, a course has been taken to oust Russia from the South Caucasus, and this is due to the Ukrainian conflict, when Western powers are trying to create problems for Russia wherever possible.
If there were talks about the West giving firm security guarantees, then it would be possible to conduct specific negotiations not only on symbolic supplies of weapons from France but also on the possibility of sending sufficiently powerful military contingents to the region that could ensure the security of Armenia. Or talk about how the Turkish army, as a NATO member, will guarantee the security of Armenia, but it is hard for me to imagine this option,” the expert emphasized.
