West intervenes in Armenia-Azerbaijan peace talks without invitation, says Russian FM

As soon as the EU, France, Germany, and the United States realized that the Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani process was yielding results in unblocking communications, border delimitation, and peace talks, they immediately decided to intervene in this process without invitation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, answering a question from Alpha News about how he now assesses the situation in the negotiation process.
“I believe we should not be shy about the importance of those trilateral statements that were signed in 2020-2022 by the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. It is unfortunate that such a practical and beneficial thing for Armenia as the opening of a route through the Syunik region still remains on paper. With all due respect, I see the reason for Yerevan’s position. I don’t know who advises Yerevan, someone certainly does,” he said.
The EU mission in Armenia engages in sniffing around the region rather than in confidence-building, Lavrov noted.
According to him, the West does not want the trilateral agreements between Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan to be fulfilled. The EU and the United States want to organize the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in their own way without Russia’s involvement.
Speaking about Armenian-Russian relations, Lavrov noted: “We have very warm relations with the Armenian people. We are sure that history will put everything in its right place, but we will not solve all the problems alone.”
