With resolutions regarding Armenia, Italian Senate is simply clearing its conscience – Minas Lourian

The Italian Senate recently unanimously adopted a resolution on initiatives to support the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In an interview with Alpha News, Minas Lourian, Director of the Armenian Culture Studies and Documentation Center in Venice, touched upon this topic and noted that this formula will not even be applied in practice.
“Any actions aimed at peace should be welcomed. My personal approach is that any legislative resolution can generate enthusiasm among Armenians, but it should be taken into account that it is not binding on the executive bodies. The same was true with various resolutions aimed at recognizing the Genocide. It has always been a shame for me that members of the government were not present when such resolutions were adopted,” he noted.
According to him, this resolution went unnoticed in Italy.
“This initiative is, of course, welcomed. However, I believe that it will not bring any practical consequences. I have the impression that no work is being done on a pan-Armenian scale. I must say that after the adoption of this resolution in Italy, there was no reaction. It was only us, Armenians, who were happy about it. In my opinion, the Italian Senate is simply clearing its conscience when it adopts such resolutions regarding Armenia. When nations are at war, and the rest either do not speak out or make very soft statements, I do not think that their conscience is clear,” Minas Lourian concluded.
