Yerevan has taken Tehran’s vital interests into account in Washington agreement – ambassador

Armenia has taken Iran’s vital interests into consideration regarding the Washington agreement, Armenia’s Ambassador Grigor Hakobyan said in an interview with the Tasnim news agency. According to him, Armenian-Iranian relations have always been characterized by mutual respect, trust, and a level of good neighborliness that holds special value in the region.
Speaking about the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), the ambassador said that it does not contradict Iran’s interests, and Yerevan has taken into account Tehran’s vital interests. “First of all, I would like to address the term ‘corridor’ used in your question.
In the declaration signed on August 8, 2025, in Washington by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States, it is clearly stated that unimpeded communication between the main territory of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan through Armenian territory will be ensured within the framework of the program ‘Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity’ (TRIPP). Thus, the official name of the route passing through southern Armenia is ‘TRIPP,’ and any other designation, including ‘corridor,’ contradicts the letter and spirit of the declaration signed by the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of Azerbaijan, and the President of the United States. Taking this opportunity, I would also like to call on the Iranian expert and media community to adhere to this terminology.
The Washington declaration provides for the unblocking of all transport communications for domestic, bilateral, and international transportation based on the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state jurisdiction. I emphasize that, in the spirit of sincere friendship and mutual trust, official Yerevan has taken into account Tehran’s vital interests throughout this entire process, and as events developed, active dialogue was conducted at various levels. It should also be noted that these very principles have always been fundamental for both Armenia and for Iran, and their observance fully aligns with the interests of our two countries,” Hakobyan said.
