International expert Andranik Hovhannisyan, in an interview with Alpha News, presented two scenarios of what will happen when Armenia and Azerbaijan sign a peace agreement. According to him, Azerbaijan will do everything possible to change the Armenian Constitution.
“The Azerbaijani side will continue its provocations, which will lead to a local escalation. As a result, Azerbaijan will achieve its goal. That is, the document will not be signed. The Azerbaijani side will benefit from this, since it is not interested in signing a peace agreement. It will continue to exert pressure on the Armenian authorities through diplomatic and political means on the international stage. This is the first scenario,” he said.
The expert also mentioned a second scenario, according to which the current Armenian authorities will use the peace document as a trump card in the upcoming elections and will mislead the public.
“The second scenario is that the document will be signed, but it is obvious that there will be no long-term peace in our region, because this agreement is a document on unilateral concessions. When only one of the two parties makes concessions, this will not bring long-term peace to the region.
If the document is signed, the Armenian authorities, led by Nikol Pashinyan, will have the opportunity to use this fact during the elections and, by misleading the public, show that the document has been signed and peace will come. They will continue the cycle of endless unilateral concessions,” Andranik Hovhannisyan noted with regret.
He firmly believes that the Azerbaijani side is not inclined to sign a peace agreement and its goal is to amend the Armenian Constitution and dissolve the Minsk Group.
