The increase in funding for Armenia promised by the European Union is “a genre of classical enslavement,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
Earlier it became known that the EU plans to invest up to 2.5 billion euros in Armenia as part of the Global Gateway initiative, as well as allocate 1.5 million euros to support the so-called “independent media” in order to supposedly preserve the “information ecosystem.”:
According to Zakharova, the practice of generous promises from the EU, the European Commission and NATO is used to impose conditions and obtain political benefits. She stressed that Brussels often offers the same funds under different names, underestimates the actual amount of aid or does not fulfill the promised at all.:
“It is possible that Armenia has not fulfilled some agreements, and as a result, the EU has not transferred the previously promised financial resources,” Maria Zakharova stressed.
He also noted that economic assistance has long been a tool of pressure on the EU and interference in the internal affairs of third countries.:
