Armenia should assess the risks to its own security from rapprochement with NATO and act in accordance with its national interests, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in a press briefing on Wednesday.
She commented on the statement by the NATO Special Representative for the Caucasus, Javier Colomina, about Yerevan’s shift towards NATO, noting that if someone wants rapprochement, they need to understand how safe it is and what consequences it will lead to.
“Probably, it is necessary to look at the basic principles here: what are the national interests of each country, in particular, Armenia? Perhaps it is necessary to analyze this, open a map, see in which region and between which neighbors this country is located, read history books,” Zakharova added.
According to her, Yerevan should take into consideration long-term interests and remember that the West never fulfills its promises.
