At the 4th Azerbaijani-Turkish Energy Forum, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov reiterated the idea of the “Zangezur corridor” as a strategic route for transporting hydrocarbons and green energy from the Caspian region and Central Asia to Turkey and onward to global markets.

“This pipeline not only enables direct natural gas deliveries between Nakhichevan and Turkey via a land route but also allows for reverse flow thanks to its increased capacity. It is a new gateway for strategic energy partnership between our countries,” the minister noted.

It is important to note that Armenia strongly opposes the term “corridor,” viewing it as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity. No international document, including the November 9, 2020 declaration, provides for the creation of an extraterritorial corridor through Armenian territory. Discussions can only pertain to the unblocking of regional communications—based on reciprocity, under Armenian control, and in accordance with Armenian legislation.
