Former Verkhovna Rada member Spiridon Kilinkarov spoke to Alpha News about possible Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul and emphasized that Zelensky would obstruct the negotiation process in every possible way.

“Firstly, Putin never planned to go there. This discussion is about resuming the negotiation process that was interrupted in March 2022. Putin proposed resuming this negotiation process; accordingly, the Ukrainian and Russian sides should send their representatives there to continue this dialogue. Putin’s trip there was never planned.

As for Zelensky’s comedic outburst—’I’m waiting for Putin in Istanbul’—this once again shows that he is not in the mood for a serious negotiation process. He will sabotage this negotiation process in every possible way because he does not need it, it contradicts his political interests and his ambitions. In my opinion, this is an absolutely unrealistic idea, at least at this stage. And not because it is bad, but because the Ukrainian side, Zelensky, and his European colleagues are not interested in resolving this conflict, at least at this stage,” Kilinkarov said.
