Romania does not recognize Genocide because of its economic ties with Turkey — Varujan Pambuccian

Romania does not recognize the Armenian Genocide because it has economic ties with Turkey, Romanian MP Varujan Pambuccian told Alpha News.
“The fact of the Armenian Genocide has so far been recognized only by the Romanian president, but, you know, the country recognizes something when the parliament says ‘yes’. Romania, as a state, has not recognized the Armenian Genocide, and every year we try to make it happen. It is difficult because the parliamentary majority says the country has economic ties with Turkey. They do not want Turkey to ask why they recognized the Armenian Genocide. Let’s speak the truth,” he said.
Pambuccian also shared his dream: he wants Armenia to stay the way we know it.
“When I visited Armenia, someone asked me what impressed me the most in Armenia. The most amazing thing for me was that everyone around me spoke Armenian. This is a miracle for an Armenian, because here in Romania, you hardly find anyone who speaks Armenian.
I hope Armenia pulls through and stays as we know it. I really hope so. It is difficult when Azerbaijan and Turkey are next to you,” Varujan Pambuccian concluded.
