During a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the Eurasia International Film Festival, film director and General Director of Mosfilm Concern, Karen Shakhnazarov, said that he would not mind coming to Armenia and getting acquainted with Armenian cinema, but he is not invited.

“Many Armenians are working in Russian cinema today—they are, of course, Russian directors. But I don’t see any joint projects. I am sincerely convinced the traditional ties of all the republics of the former USSR with Russia and the Russian market suggest that co-production would be highly beneficial for everyone. It is beneficial for Russia as well. From this perspective, I believe these ties should be built up, and it is very good that this festival is basically doing this. And its name is Eurasia. It is important,” he said.

Answering Alpha News‘ question whether he had an idea to make a movie about Armenia or Armenian themes, Shakhnazarov responded that, while he currently has no such plans, he does not rule out the possibility.

“I don’t rule out that it could happen, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen Armenian films. But where can I see them? I’m not invited to Armenia, by the way—apparently due to some political views, I don’t know. Well, of course I want to, I’m interested. After all, I am Armenian by blood. So, I would love to come. I am not very familiar with what’s going on in Armenian cinema, but I would be happy to cooperate,” Shakhnazarov added.
