Armenia wins 14 medals and sets 11 records at Youth Para Powerlifting World Championship

The Armenian national team claimed eight gold, five silver, and one bronze medal at the Youth Para Powerlifting World Championship, which concluded yesterday in Cairo, Egypt.

Armenian para-athletes set four world records and seven European records. In the team standings, Armenia placed third, behind only Uzbekistan and the host nation, Egypt.

Rafael Hamazaspyan (age category 15–17) from Gyumri became a two-time champion, setting three European and two world records: a maximum lift of 115 kg and a series of total lifts at 110 kg, 114 kg, and 115 kg. Hamazaspyan became the second Armenian athlete to set a world record in para powerlifting.

Other medalists included Khoren Tsaturyan, who set a new European record; Karine Manukyan, who broke both European and world records; as well as Anyuta Petrosyan, Artur Babayan, Tigran Khlghatyan, Artyom Mukhsyan, and David Unanyan.
