Edgar Shatiryan has resigned as Vice President of the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

“I will continue to serve as a judge of the Constitutional Court. Given that the current realities have become an obvious fact, I considered it impossible to remain in the post of Vice President of the Constitutional Court,” Shatiryan told journalists after the election of the court’s president.

He said the step was entirely logical.

Asked about possible pressure, he stressed that everyone who knows him can confirm he is not someone who can be pressured. “I have been a Constitutional Court judge for more than six years, and throughout my tenure there has been no pressure on me, there is none, and there can be none.”

Shatiryan also noted that the outcome of the election did not come as a surprise to him.
