Russia secures consular access to Samvel Karapetyan

The Russian side is raising the issue of the detention of philanthropist and businessman Samvel Karapetyan in official contacts with the Armenian side, and the embassy has gained access to him, Mikhail Kalugin, Director of the Fourth CIS Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, told RIA Novosti.

“Through the Russian Embassy in Yerevan, we managed to secure consular access to him. The most recent visit by our diplomats took place in early December,” he said.

“We are receiving all necessary information about Karapetyan’s condition, including through lawyers and relatives. He reports being in satisfactory health, showing optimism and a fighting spirit,” he added.

“We raise this issue in contacts with official representatives of the republic. We emphasize that Karapetyan has already been in detention for six months without a court ruling,” the diplomat concluded.
