Russia will not leave its traditional allies—Armenia, Syria, Venezuela, and Iran—at the mercy of the United States, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told journalists.
“Russia, under any circumstances, remains committed to its international obligations toward its partners,” he said, answering a question about whether Moscow is “abandoning” its traditional allies.
“Our relations with Armenia are based on a solid legal and contractual framework that secures their allied status. We have repeatedly emphasized at various levels that this is the basis of our bilateral ties. Our peoples are united by centuries-old friendship, common history, civilizational and ideological closeness. We fruitfully cooperate within common integration associations in the Eurasian space,” Lavrov stressed.
According to him, membership in the EAEU brings Armenia real, tangible benefits.
“One of the main advantages of the Union is solving issues based on the principle of mutual respect and consideration of member states’ interests, unaffected by political circumstances,” he said, adding that Armenia also remains a member of the CSTO with all rights and obligations.
