Leaders of Russia and US are in dialogue: Pavel Danilin

Pavel Danilin, political scientist, commented to Alpha News on the talks between the presidents of the US and Russia.

“The spirit of Anchorage remains, but one shouldn’t think that any global breakthroughs have been achieved. No, there are none, no global breakthroughs. The fact that there is dialogue between the leaders is already good.

So this doesn’t rule out the global conflict with the West. But of course there are positive factors: the fact that our leaders are engaged in a format of dialogue, and a fairly respectful dialogue at that. And the fact that our leaders reached certain agreements, which we call the ‘spirit of Anchorage,’ and which in fact haven’t gone off the table, because these agreements concern not only (and not even primarily) the Ukrainian conflict, but rather pan-European security. And the United States looks at this issue, which is extremely important for us, from a position that generally corresponds to our understanding of pan-European security, that is, a non-confrontational position. This tells us that we should in no way abandon dialogue. And yes, there’s no need to count on a breakthrough, no need at all, but we must keep in mind that, in fact, any conflict ends sooner or later,” Danilin believes.

According to the political scientist, although Russia is not under international blockade, collective Europe is doing everything it can to exert political and economic pressure on Russia.

“Isolation of Russia as such failed long ago. The very fact of Putin’s visit to the US, to Anchorage, also speaks for itself. But the Europeans will keep putting spokes in the wheels. They have staked too much on inflicting on us what they call a strategic defeat, and they have no interest in giving up this pressure,” the expert concluded.
