Dozens of tankers and cargo vessels have piled up at both the entrance to and exit from the Persian Gulf after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, only two tankers managed to pass through, compared with the roughly 60 ships that normally cross the strait each day under stable conditions. Meanwhile, vessel-tracking services report that the strait itself remains virtually deserted.
