A march is underway in Yerevan from Mergelyan Park to the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, where the 8th European Political Community Summit is taking place. Another protest is planned in the complex’s courtyard.

Artur Khachatryan, a member of the Armenia faction, told journalists at Mergelyan Park that they are calling on senior European officials not to turn a blind eye to democratic backsliding in Armenia and the establishment of what he described as increasingly overt one-man rule.

“We see that today we have dozens of political prisoners. People are being tried on fabricated charges, criminal cases are being initiated on unfounded accusations, and detention is chosen as a preventive measure. At the same time, individuals connected to the authorities or who have served in the state system face criminal cases for serious crimes, yet no consequences follow. If Europe wants to be a true friend of Armenia, it cannot turn a blind eye to the lawlessness prevailing in the country,” Khachatryan said.
