“European Parliament resolutions are more pro-Armenian than Pashinyan’s statements”: Karen Igityan
Resolutions adopted by the European Parliament in some cases defend Armenian interests more clearly than the positions voiced by Armenia’s authorities, political analyst Karen Igityan said in an interview with Alpha News.
According to him, a contradictory situation has emerged in which Ilham Aliyev thanks Nikol Pashinyan.
“This is to some extent logical in a situation where Pashinyan does not defend Armenian interests and at the same time expresses dissatisfaction with the European Parliament, which, on the contrary, adopts pro-Armenian resolutions,” Igityan said.
In his view, while Armenia’s authorities often argue that regional problems stem from Soviet or Russian factors, the European Parliament’s position presents a different picture.
“The European Parliament has adopted more than ten resolutions recording specific historical facts, regardless of political interpretations,” he noted.
Among these, Igityan highlighted references to ethnic cleansing in Artsakh, as well as recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
“This is simply reality as recorded by various centers of power: in one case, it concerns the actions of Turkey; in another, Azerbaijan,” the analyst stressed.
In his view, such assessments point not only to recognition of historical events but also to the long-term political objectives of those states.
