Armenia and Georgia will jointly host the U20 Football World Cup in 2029. Alpha News spoke on the topic with Viulen Ayvazyan, former striker for the Armenian national team and coach of LA International FC.

According to him, the Football Federation of Armenia and the Armenian authorities must take the necessary steps to ensure the tournament is properly hosted. He noted that there are issues that need to be resolved in the meantime, such as the problem of stadiums.

“If we are talking about whether this will fundamentally transform Armenian football, I personally do not believe it will. I hope it becomes a starting point after which football begins to develop even further,” the coach stressed.

Ayvazyan noted that the World Cup will be held in Yerevan, Vanadzor, and Dilijan, but that all three cities currently have infrastructure problems.

“At the moment, the only stadium that meets the required standards is the Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium. However, there are still three years ahead, and I hope stadiums will be built in the other two cities as well, so that it does not look as though the games are mostly being held in Georgia rather than both countries hosting equally,” the former striker concluded.
